Yum, Here We Are

By the Rebbetzin

Welcome to the diner!

I have always wanted to open my own diner, which is simply not possible at this time in my life, so I decided to open a virtual diner. So I am officially announcing the opening of . . . . (drum roll)

Sadie’s Luncheonette

It will be a journal of recipies I love, new recipies I will try/have tried, and my thoughts about food and food culture. I often try to update classic holiday/shabbat recipies, and I will post those that are successful. I look forward to your comments, suggestions, and even recipies if you have a tried-and-true favorite.

Enjoy!

Oh, by the way, Randi: you are now a sandwich ;-)

Wow. Hemingway? Them’s awfully big shoes to fill. I’m only a size 7. :-)

    Thanks!

Love the look! I’ve been trying to start a kosher recipe club around the shul, but everyone’s too busy to participate. This will do quite nicely instead!

So, I’m making kugels (count ‘em – two!) for my family education class tomorrow. It’s my turn for snack and we’re lately on a “bring in a traditional dish from your ethnic background” kick. I’m baking two kugels because three of the 12 parents are allergic to dairy. I was going to de-dairify (how’s that for a made-up word?) my favorite kugel – one complete with cottage cheese and cream cheese… but the thought of making a dairy-free cottage cheese out of tofu and testing it as part of a pareve kugel on an unsuspecting audience who has never even HAD kugel before…

    sigh.

So I’m doing one pareve kugel and my favorite dairy one. And then later, I’ll try a pareve version of my dairy one for my family and if it turns out well (I have my reservations), I’ll send you the recipe.

Good luck with the diner! I’ll be back for seconds.–>

Glad you like it! I am a sucker for anything retro, and I love diners. And for you, the coffee is on the house! :-)

E.K.: this is adorable! I love it…(of course, the fact that I am a famous sandwich has nothing to do with my love for your new dinette). Hey, how much is a cup a joe around here?

    The Elianna, eh? :) Cute!

    LOL

    Thanks! Can I sit anywhere?
